The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) are joining forces to improve livelihood support for OFWs. Leaders from both agencies announced this expanding partnership during a recent assembly marking the start of the National Women’s Month Celebration at the DMW office in Mandaluyong City.

Maximizing Hard-Earned Remittances
DTI Secretary Ma. Cristina A. Roque addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of smart financial planning. She stressed that workers need the right tools to use every dollar they earn effectively. When migrant workers manage their remittances well, they can build a secure and comfortable future for their families.
The DTI aims to guide these workers in turning their overseas savings into profitable local investments, ensuring that their hard work abroad translates into long-term wealth at home.
Creating Local Business Opportunities
To make this goal a reality, the DTI and DMW are developing targeted livelihood programs. These joint initiatives aim to give workers viable economic opportunities in the Philippines, reducing the need to repeatedly seek employment abroad.
“We want OFWs earning a wage to have the opportunity to build their own business and secure their families,” Secretary Roque stated. She explained that the DTI has actively designed business development frameworks that align closely with the welfare services of the DMW. By working together, the two agencies can provide workers with the business registration assistance, market knowledge, and entrepreneurial training they need to succeed.
Honoring the Sacrifices of Migrant Workers
This ongoing collaboration acknowledges the deep personal cost of working overseas. Secretary Roque pointed out that behind every financial remittance is a parent who sacrificed personal comfort and lived far away from home just to provide for their loved ones.
The government officially considers these workers modern-day heroes who deserve comprehensive economic assistance upon their return. This joint agency effort directly follows the mandate of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. The administration requires all relevant government departments to strengthen their support systems and deliver sustainable livelihood programs to empower overseas Filipino workers.
